Fiji Airways Flying Fijians return to Twickenham to face Barbarians in November

The Fiji Airways Flying Fijians will play the Barbarians XVs on 16th November in the first international rugby match to be staged in the UK following the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

Fans can expect to see a number of this year’s Rugby World Cup stars pulling on the famous black and white shirt to play the Flying Fijians in what is sure to be an electrifying display of flair.

Flying Fijians head coach John McKee said the team is honoured to be invited to play the Barbarians at Twickenham, six years since their last encounter in 2013.

“The Baa-Baas style is somewhat similar to the Flying Fijians and the way we love to play. Fans can expect an exhilarating and fast-flowing match on the day.”

McKee added that the team always looks forward to playing at one of the most prestigious stadiums in the world and especially against a club steeped in so much history.

Barbarians, the world’s most famous rugby club are renowned for their attacking flair and entertaining style and will meet a Fiji Airways Flying Fijian team also synonymous with fast-paced and thrilling rugby.

The match will be the only Autumn International of 2019 to be played at Twickenham as the two teams will contest the Killik Cup just two weeks after the 2019 Rugby World Cup final.

The match will be a onetime opportunity for UK fans to experience top-class international action and some witness some returning players from the 2019 Rugby World Cup at the home of English Rugby.

England Rugby Coach Eddie Jones will be fresh off the plane from Japan and the Rugby World Cup to lead the Barbarians and he emphasized that being selected to coach the Barbarians was such an honour.

“The (Barbarians) club perfectly embodies the values and traditions of the sport and fans can expect to see an exciting match between two sides who like to play end-to-end running rugby.”

The last time the two teams met at Twickenham, in November 2013, more than 68,000 fans were treated to a spectacle of running rugby, with the Barbarians stealing the show in an electric 43-19 win.

London is well known to have a huge Fijian supporter base through the British defence force in particular, and the Flying Fijians hope to see some strong support as they march onto field at Twickenham.
