Disciplinary update: Campese Ma’afu (Fiji)

LONDON, 8 Oct – Campese Ma’afu (Fiji) came before a disciplinary hearing following an accumulation of two yellow cards and one Citing Commissioner Warning during the tournament. The player received no further sanction and is therefore free to play immediately.

The player received a Citing Commissioner Warning for a dangerous tackle contrary to Laws 10.4(e), (j) and (m) in Fiji’s Pool A match against England on 18 September. The player subsequently received a yellow card in Fiji’s match against Australia on 23 September for a technical offence followed by a second yellow card in Fiji’s match against Uruguay on 6 October for an act of foul play contrary to Law 10.4(l).

Having conducted a detailed review of all the available evidence, including all camera angles, evidence and submissions from the player and his legal representative Chris Smith of Lewis Silkin, the Judicial Officer Roger Morris (Wales) decided that no further sanction was necessary.

The player and Rugby World Cup both have the right to appeal once they receive the full decision. The full judgment will be available on www.rugbyworldcup.com within the next 24 hours.
