Deans Rugby Coaches attend Level 1 Coaching Course
The course was facilitated by the Fiji Rugby Union’s Development Unit together with Mr. Talemo Waqa who is the Oceania Regional Training Co-coordinator to assist the secondary school coaches in Nadi in preparing their teams for the 2015 Deans Competition. The President of the Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby Union, Mr. Setareki Merekula who is also the Principal of Ratu Navula College played a key role in allowing the training to take place at the school.

Total number of Participants: 22 (18 Nadi Secondary School Rugby Association, 2 Primary School teachers, 2 Club Coaches)
The coaches also completed their Part 1 of Level 2 15s Coach on the same day. In this session, Mr. Waqa stressed to the coaches the importance of understanding the Principles of Rugby including Principles of Attack and Defence, Functional roles, key factor analysis and coaching principles. In order for Coaches to be accredited they need to complete Part 2 of the course which is the practical component where the FRU Development Unit will monitor in the coming months.
All the Nadi Schools that will participate in the Deans Competition this year were represented including Nadi Muslim College, Shri Vivenkanda College, SSKMC, Votualevu College, Korovuto College and Ratu Navula College.
Similar Training was conducted in Lautoka on Thursday (28th of May) for secondary school coaches in Lautoka in which a total of 29 coaches attended. Interestingly club coaches in Lautoka took advantage of this opportunity as they were part of the training.
