Lawaqa Park to host final leg of Fun Flavour Super Sevens Series

Fiji Rugby is pleased to announce the final leg of the Fun Flavour Super Sevens Series will take place this Friday and Saturday at Lawaqa Park in Sigatoka.

FRU CEO John O’Connor said “With Hong Kong 7s just around the corner, it’s the ideal time to have the final leg of the Fun Flavour Super Sevens Series as this gives an opportunity to both the Fiji Airways Fijian and Fijiana 7s coaches to scout players and also monitor those who are in the extended squad.”

He added that he is pleased to say that the two days of the exciting tournament return to Lawaqa Park which initially hosted the first leg in January.

“It was here that we started our Fun Flavour Super Sevens Series, but due to the restrictions then, we were not able to have any spectators” said O’Connor.

FRU would like to thank the support of the 7s clubs in ensuring our gladiators are well prepared for the HSBC 7s Series and eventually winning the World Rugby Sevens World Cup.

O’Connor congratulated the following men’s and women’s teams who have been selected to play in the final leg.

Fiji Airways Fijian 7s Coach Ben Gollings said “The Fun Flavour Super Sevens Series has been integral towards giving players game time and also identifying new talents and looking at other players.”

He added “It’s a very competitive set of tournaments and its really supportive of what we need which is to be able to put the players into their clubs and play them in that environment and see how they adapt and perform.”

“I’m looking forward to this weekend as it will give us a really good platform as we build into the selection and final week of training before the Hong Kong 7s” said Ben Gollings.

Fiji Airways Fijiana Coach Saiasi Fuli said it’s the best time for players to shine and get scouted since the majority of the national players are currently part of the Fijiana 15s and a few with the Army at the Defence World Cup.

“It’s a perfect time to stage the final series and a great opportunity to identify new players before we kickoff the 2022/2023 World Rugby Sevens Series.

We have penciled few players after the completion of the provincial season and this leg will enable the girls to transit into 7s and a great opportunity for us to lock our final squad heading into the new season” said Fuli.

Meanwhile, O’Connor has also thanked the major sponsors CJ Patel Pacific Limited and other partners of Powerade, Fiji Water and broadcast partners Fijian Broadcast Corporation {FBC}.
