Fijian Warriors beat Samoa in the WRPC opener
The Swire Shipping Fijian Warriors beat Samoa 29-5 to secure their first win in the World Rugby Pacific Challenge underway at ANZ Stadium in Suva.
In his first game as Skipper, Tuidraki Samusamuvodre scored twice while Filimoni Savou and Anasa Qaranivalu managed to get a try each in the game.
In a tightly contested second spell, Fiji were denied any points while Samoa managed to get a consolation try.
Swire Shipping Fijian Warriors Coach Kele Leawere said “There were a lot of basic errors made in the second spell.
“The player didn’t followed the game plan given to them instead just went with the flow.
“Lucky we had enough points to win the match.”
Leawere said they need to prepare well for the second match against Tonga.
“Tonga is another physical team and they will come prepared.
“We need to work on a few areas and stick to our game plan during the match” he said.
Captain Samusmauvodre said they did well in the first half but lost the concentration in the last 45 minutes.
“We played well in the first half but just failed to bounce back in the second spell.
“It’s time for us to recover and prepare well for the match against Tonga on Tuesday” said Samusamuvodre.
The next round of WRPC will be played on Tuesday where Junior Japan faces Samoa A at 2.30pm after which Fijian Warriors meets Tonga A at 5pm. All matches will be held at ANZ Stadium in Suva.
