Suva, Fiji – Recent World Rugby report’s have indicated that the Rugby community is still buzzing with excitement following the extraordinary Rugby 7s competition at the Paris 2024 Olympics. With more than 530,000 passionate fans filling the Stade de France over six exhilarating days, the event was nothing short of a triumph. The atmosphere was electric, marking a significant milestone for Rugby 7s, fulfilling our highest hopes and plans for the sport’s grand showcase.
Paris 2024 not only captivated the live audience but also reached tens of millions around the globe across digital and broadcast platforms, including an impressive 11.6 million broadcast viewers in France alone for the men’s final. The event shattered several attendance records, most notably achieving the highest attendance for a women’s rugby event, with 66,000 fans attending each session of the women’s fixtures. This success is a testament to the incredible work and dedication of everyone involved.
After a thorough review of our performances in the HSBC 7s series and Paris 2024 we are pleased to announce some important updates regarding our National 7s coaching staff :
Osea’s Continued Leadership:
Following comprehensive discussions with Coaches, Team Managers, Captains, and an independent review team, we are delighted to confirm that Osea will continue as the Head Coach of our Men’s Sevens Team for the next four years. Osea’s impressive results over the past four months have demonstrated his capability and vision for the future. He has major plans moving forward, which he will share in due course. We are excited about the potential of our Men’s Sevens Team under his continued leadership and are committed to pursuing gold at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics.
Women’s Sevens Coaching Position:
Saiasi Fuli’s contract as Head Coach of our Women’s Sevens Team concludes in December 2024. After discussions with Fuli, we have decided to advertise the position to find the best candidate to lead our women’s team into the next phase. The new coach will tasked to initiate and implement a High Performance Strategy moving forward and selection of the Team for the upcoming HSBC 7s series program
