FRU Offers Special Packages for June Test Series

The Fiji Airways Flying Fijians march into camp tomorrow in preparations for the 2018 World Rugby Pacific Nations Cup also dubbed the June Test Series, which kicks off at the ANZ Stadium next Saturday, 9 June.

The tournament, which provides important high-performance preparations for teams ahead of Rugby World Cup 2019, see Georgia joining Fiji, Samoa and Tonga.

In a revised format compared to previous editions, the winner will be determined as the team to have scored the maximum number of competition points over the two fixtures that they play.

The fixtures form part of a wider package of World Rugby-supported fixtures involving emerging and high performance Tier 2 rugby nations during the June window.

Fiji Rugby Union CEO, Mr John O’Connor says that the tournament will prove to be an exciting one, as the Fiji Airways Flying Fijians will be looking to redeem themselves against the Georgians following their 14-3 loss against them in 2016, which was also played at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

It will also be an opportunity for fans to watch their home team defend their Pacific Nations Cup title and see the development of the Akapusi Qera captained side on the road to the 2019 Rugby World Cup.

“The World Rugby Pacific Nations Cup represents a great opportunity to defend our title at home and for fans to see the development of the Flying Fijians on the road to Rugby World Cup 2019 in Japan.”

“With just over a year to go until Rugby World Cup every match counts to prepare, form combinations and strategies, so this is an important competition. We have a very talented squad that includes the 2018 European Player of the Year, Leone Nakarawa, and Semi Radradra, who has switched codes and will pull on a Fiji jersey for the first time in front of a home crowd, which is exciting.”

The June Test Series, will see two matches played at the ANZ Stadium in Suva on 9 and 16 June and the third on 23 June at Churchill Park in Lautoka.
