2024 Vodafone Kaji Competition Launched
The much-anticipated Vodafone Kaji Competition is set to make its grand return from October 29 to 31 at the HFC Bank Stadium, after a five-year hiatus. This year, the competition will see boys and girls showcasing their talent in a series of thrilling matches, with girls competing in the Under 13 7s format and boys taking the field in the Under 14 15s format.
Rovereto Nayacalevu, Chief Executive Officer of the Fiji Rugby Union (FRU), expressed his gratitude for the continued partnership with Vodafone Fiji, stating, “Most of these events and programs that we run would not happen without the support of our sponsors. We thank Vodafone Fiji for continuing to partner with us through this journey.” He highlighted the investment made by Vodafone in these young athletes, noting that it lays the foundation for future success at global levels.
Regional Chief Marketing Officer of Vodafone Fiji, Mr. Rajnesh Prasad, echoed Nayacalevu’s sentiments, emphasizing the importance of grassroots rugby development. “I’m delighted to celebrate the return of this notable competition, which holds a special place in our hearts. It’s about our children and the future of rugby in Fiji,” he remarked. “We strive for excellence, and firmly believe that sports has the power to shape the future of our youths.”
Mr. Sakiusa Turagabeci, President of the Fiji Primary Schools Rugby Union, thanked Vodafone Fiji for their ongoing support and highlighted the significance of the event. “Today, we are sowing the seeds of dreams, passion, and future success in the hearts of our young Kaji and Kajiana ruggers,” he stated. With a total of 32,000 registered young players under the Fiji Primary Schools Rugby Union banner—21,232 are boys and 11,210 make up girls in the total number—Turagabeci emphasized that these numbers represent more than just players; they signify the future of rugby in Fiji.
We will only see a fraction of that number take part in the Vodafone Kaji competition who will feature in qualifying schools from 16 districts across the country. Tickets for the event are affordably priced, with grandstand seats available for $10 flat, embankment tickets for $7 for adults and $5 for children, and $3 for school children in uniform.
