2017 FRU Skipper Cup Premiership and FRU Vodafone Vanua Championship Finals

After two thrilling semi-finals on Saturday, Namosi after coming back and winning their semi-final against Naitasiri in extra time now face the mammoth task of battling the Champion Nadroga Stallions who defeated Suva in their semi-final in the Final of the FRU Skipper Cup Premiership. The Final which will be hosted at Lawaqa Park on Saturday, the 15th of July 2017

The final is the culmination of the new format of FRU Skipper Cup Premiership which has seen the intensity and level of matches lift up to another level. FRU CEO John O’Connor highlighted that we are looking forward to another epic battle in the final. We had two very competitive semi-finals and expect another epic encounter at Lawaqa Park on Saturday.

The Nadroga Stallions who are the defending champions will be hard to beat in their home ground. The FRU CEO believes that apart from fitness, the team which will be disciplined mentally however who optimises possession and converts opportunities will have a good chance of winning the final.

The matches kicks off at 3.00pm

In the U20 Skipper Cup Finals, Namosi will take on Suva at 1.00pm at Lawaqa Park

The winner of the Skipper Cup Premiership 2017 will take home the Skipper Cup Premiership and the Cash Prize Money of $30,000. The runner up will receive $15,000.

Meanwhile, Rewa and Navosa will battle for the Vodafone Vanua Championship after their wins against Lautoka and Ovalau in their respective semi-finals.

Both Navosa and Rewa have qualified for the FRU Skipper Cup Premiership in 2018 relegating Northland and Macuata to the Vanua Championship.

In the U20 Vodafone Vanua Challenge, Ba will play against Nasinu in the curtain raiser.

The FRU Vodafone Championship will be held at the ANZ Stadium on Friday the 14th of July 2017 and the U20 match will kick off at 3pm with the main finals at 5pm.

“We have been very pleased with the Teams involved in the revised Vodafone Championship competition and we expect a huge battle in the final. The winner will walk away with FRU Vodafone Vanua Championship and a cash prize money of $10,000. The runner up wins $5,000”
